I always have self-induced pressure to attempt to write something deep and meaningful and profound. But many days, my brain just doesn’t have something profound to say. Then I get annoyed with myself for not being able to produce “profound” on command…then I despair and decide I’m going to open a cupcake stand, or start making home decor and selling it on Etsy.

Dramatic much?

Yeah, welcome to my brain. (Insert eye roll emoji.)

Today, I just want to talk about some of my favorite things that feed my soul on a fairly regular basis. I’ll post links in case you’re interested (or just addicted to Amazon, like I am).

So, here we go. Here’s a sneak peek into the backdrop of a typical day in the life of Heather (may include affiliate links).

I start my day by drinking fat. Yup, you read that correctly. But it’s not what you’re thinking (cue Friends rerun). It’s a yummy, healthy, energizing way to fuel my body and decrease sugar cravings (cause isn’t that what we all want?!?!). Here’s the recipe, which originated with Dr. Forrest Sauer at Twin Oaks Health Solutions:

Chocolate Fat Bomb

1/3 C Olive Oil (I use Bertolli Extra Light Tasting Olive Oil)

1 T Cacao Powder (I use Viva Organic Cacao Powder)

4 C hot water

1 T MCT Oil (I use NOW Pure MCT Oil)

a few granules Pink Himalayan Salt

1 T Coconut Butter (I use Nutiva Organic Coconut Manna)

1/2 tsp Stevia (I use MicroIngredients Organic Stevia)

You could also add 4-5 drops of Peppermint or Wild Orange Essential Oil, if you like. I use DoTerra Oils, and Wild Orange is my favorite.

Blend everything together and enjoy. I drink the whole thing, although it takes me most of the day to do it. But, it stays hot all day because THIS is the awesome Coleman FreeFlow AutoSeal Thermos that holds the ENTIRE recipe…plus, it’s purple.

My day often includes journaling. I regularly record important thoughts and conversations write out prayers longhand…something about writing them keeps my focus, since I tend to have squirrel-brain. I absolutely LOVE these journals from Barnes & Noble. But to be totally honest, I’m a total journal junkie and buy most of them at TJMaxx and HomeGoods. I may or may not have 8 (or 9 or 10) blank journals waiting for me on my bookshelf as I type this….

When I’m jotting my thoughts down in my journal, I prefer using this fabulous purple writing utensil. (Yes, I love purple.)

Music is an integral part of my day. While you might know me now as a Marriage and Family Therapist, for the first half of my life I was a musician. I still play and sing on our worship team at church, but that’s the extent of it. I’m currently obsessed with Audrey Assad, and her song, Drawn to You. It’s on repeat on my Alexa.

When I’m not drinking the Fat Bomb (above), I’m likely sipping on my favorite Tazo tea, over ice.

At the suggestion of my beloved teacher, Larry Crabb, a few years ago I switched to the ESV Study Bible. I happen to think mine is rather beautiful. I’ve been camped out in John 15, learning from Jesus about abiding, restful union. Such sweetness for my soul.

One of my favorite forms of ingesting God’s Word has become Lectio Divina. My friend and fellow Hope*Writer, Summer Gross, guides thirsty souls through this ancient practice on her website and Facebook, too. If you long for more, this is an amazing place to start.

My ongoing desire is to create a meaningful, intentional life, full of healthful choices both for my body and my soul.

And I want to share this journey with you. Would you join me? I’d love to hear how you feed your soul.
